Alternative '90s rock band Stone Temple Pilots is on the hunt for its next singer, the band announced via a statement posted to its official website. The three remaining members of the group are searching for a new vocalist after the death of former STP frontman Scott Weiland last December and the departure of former singer Chester Bennington (of rap/rock group Linkin Park) last November.
"As you know, prior to the untimely passing of our brother in arms, Scott, we had been working with the incomparable Chester Bennington," the statement read, which was signed by bassist Robert DeLeo, drummer Erick Kretz and guitarist Dean DeLeo. "What you also likely know is that having Chester front two bands of this size and scope was too much for one man to be able to do and so regretfully we had to move onto a new chapter together. This is where you come in..."
The band announced that it will begin searching for a new vocalist, although they've "already heard from many talented people," according to the statement.
Dean has asked Johnny Stevens of the rock band Highly Suspect to join the group, but Stevens declined, reported Blabbermouth.
"If you think you have what it takes to front this band, record with this band, and tour with this band, we would dig hearing from you," the statement continued. "No one will ever 'replace' Scott, that was never the intent. The intent is for Stone Temple Pilots to continue on, to evolve, and to do what we do... make music! We look forward to seeing you."
Weiland passed away in his sleep at 48 years old on Dec. 3, 2015 after going into cardiac arrest, TMZ reported. A toxicology report determined that his cause of death was due to an overdose of cocaine, MDA (Ecstasy) and alcohol.
