Halsey, the New Jersey-based pop singer/songwriter, stopped by for an appearance on Australian radio station Triple J's "Breakfast with Matt and Alex" show Thursday and performed an expletive-filled cover of pop star Justin Bieber's latest hit "Love Yourself," reported The Huffington Post. She covered the track for the show's "Like a Version" segment.
Halsey collaborated with Bieber on the dark dance pop song "The Feeling" from his 2015 album "Purpose." Before diving into her version of "Love Yourself," she shared an anecdote about the first time she performed with Bieber.
"I was on stage in like super baggy jeans and like my short haircut and whatever else," Halsey, 21, explained. "I'm sitting onstage and I'm thinking to myself, 'How cool is it that there are girls sitting at home watching the biggest male pop star in the world onstage with a girl who's not necessarily traditionally feminine or traditionally beautiful?' That was really really cool for me cause if I was that short-haired punk chick sitting at home who secretly loved Justin Bieber, I'd be like, 'Yes, you go! You get that!' For the record, I did not get that but I'm just saying."
She then performed Bieber's "Love Yourself," but she switched up the songs' lyrics, singing "Cause if you like the way you look that much / oh baby you should go and f--k yourself" instead of the original "Love Yourself" lyrics.
