Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show: 12 Performers We'd Rather See Than Coldplay

British rock band Coldplay has been topping charts worldwide for nearly two decades, just recently put out its seventh album and won 62 awards since starting out in 1996. With an impressive career, it makes sense that the band would be the headlining act for the Super Bowl 50 halftime show. While fans were thrilled to hear that their favorite band would be giving one of the biggest performances of the year, there were many people that weren't pleased with the selection as they thought there were several more relevant musicians that could put on a much better show.

While it has not yet been confirmed, it seems very likely that Beyoncé will be joining Coldplay for the performance, which would make the show a much bigger deal as Queen Bey is obviously one of the biggest names right now. She and the band have the hit song "Hymn For the Weekend" together, so it's assumed that they will be performing that - although everyone's hoping Beyoncé performs a few of her own tunes as well.

Bruno Mars is also rumored to be taking the halftime stage as Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin has dropped some hints about this recently, according to Billboard. "This may be Beyoncé's footprint," said Martin in a behind-the-scenes clip. "I'd say she was here about four hours ago. Let's look for a Bruno one."

While the performance is bound to be an exciting one, as the halftime show always is, there are some artists we would have rather seen hit the stage Feb. 7 instead of Coldplay based on their success and popularity over the past few years.

Taylor Swift
Swift is one of the biggest pop stars at the moment, and she took the world by storm with her "1989" album and tour this past year, so we know she would put on an incredible show. Plus, we can only imagine which elite members of her squad would have had the honor to be brought out onstage during her Super Bowl performance.

Rihanna
Even though Rihanna hadn't put out an album since "Unapologetic" in 2012, her new album "Anti" was just released on Tidal Jan. 28 and the physical edition is set to come out Feb. 5, which would make the Super Bowl the perfect place to debut her new songs. Rihanna has released eight albums and is one of the best-selling artists of all time, so we know there would be plenty of hit songs for her to perform whether she dropped "Anti" in time for the show or not. And who doesn't love a Rihanna performance?

Justin Bieber
It's no secret that Bieber had probably the greatest and most successful year of his career in 2015 - and his album was only released in November. After nearly four years without new albums from Bieber, he came back strong and topped the charts everywhere with his hit songs "What Do You Mean" and "Sorry," which turned pretty much everyone into a Belieber. With his world tour starting in March, the Super Bowl would have been the perfect way to kick it off.

Ed Sheeran
Sheeran may only have two albums under his belt, but he's still a huge name. His 2014 album "x" was such a huge hit that it was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2015 Grammy Awards and even won Album of the Year at the Brit Awards. He's proved time and time again that he's an incredible performer, including during his biggest solo shows to date when he sold-out London's Wembley Stadium three different nights last July.

Carrie Underwood
It'd be interesting to see a country singer perform the halftime show as it is something that has rarely been done, and with Underwood being one of the biggest female country stars out there, she definitely has the songs and the fan base to carry out an awesome performance. She also sings the NFL Sunday Night Football theme song, so she really is a perfect candidate.

Drake
Rap performances are also pretty rare at the Super Bowl, but Drake has had many No.1 songs, collaborated with many successful artists and is one of the biggest names in hip-hop, so he'd definitely be a popular act. His most recent album, "If You're Reading This It's Too Late," was his fourth album to go platinum.

Luke Bryan
Just like Underwood, Bryan would be an amazing country act to see perform the halftime show. Not only does his tour kick off Feb. 18, but he was CMA's Entertainer of the Year and Favorite Male Artist at the AMAs. He's released five albums, sold more than seven million albums and is known for putting on quite the show with his hip-shaking performances.

Mumford & Sons
Not only do these British rockers headline nearly every music festival out there, they released their third album, "Wilder Mind," last May, which was their first album that didn't feature their signature banjo. Even though they veered away from their usual sound, the album still was No. 1 on the charts. Plus, the band is known for putting on crazy-good live performances.

Ariana Grande
At just 22 years old, Grande has already accomplished so much. Singles from her 2014 album "My Everything" spent 34 continuous weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, making her the artist with the most top 10 singles from that year. She was supposed to perform at the MLB All-Star concert, so we know she's somewhat up for the challenge, but either way, her other performances have proved she puts on a good enough show to own the Super Bowl halftime.

Britney Spears
She's been in the business since she was a teenager and has been topping charts ever since. Now with her four-year Vegas residency, it's no surprise that she puts on one hell of a show. She's one of the top-selling female artists in the United States and has eight successful studio albums to prove it. Nineties kids would pretty much freak out over this halftime show.

Jennifer Lopez
She also recently started a Vegas residency and is known to be one of the most entertaining performers out there. Lopez always puts on an incredible show with her beyond sexy outfits and hit songs, and most people would love to see the Puerto Rican star put on a halftime show.

Beyoncé
Just Beyoncé. Nobody would complain about a Beyoncé-only show. And it wouldn't even matter that she's done it before because she's just that good.
