Leicester City continues its dream season in the Premier League after stunning Manchester City with a 3-1 win at Ethiad Stadium on Saturday. The match was not short on drama, as it moved the Foxes six points clear of second place Tottenham in the Premier League table.
Despite leading Manchester City by three points heading into the match, Leicester was still considered underdogs. It took only three minutes before defender Robert Huth broke the deadlock with his first of two goals, and Leicester never looked back.
Despite being held off the score sheet in Saturday's win over City, the club re-signed leading scorer Jamie Vardy, according to BBC News. Rumors started last week that Leicester was in talks to extend Vardy's contact. The deal will pay the England international $116,000 per week until 2019, according to ESPN.
Vardy joined Leicester on a $1.4 million transfer from non-league club Fleetwood Town in 2012. Since joining Leicester, Vardy has shown his value, rising to the top of the Premier League's with 18 goals this season. Vardy expressed his gratitude on the club's website.
"Leicester City have shown nothing but total faith in me since the day I arrived here three-and-a-half years ago and it's impossible to measure how much that belief has helped me to improve. I'll forever be grateful for the investment the Club has made in me and I'll spend every day working to repay it." he said.
Vardy and the Foxes have been considered underdogs all season, but after a win over Manchester City at Ethiad Stadium, City Manager Manual Pellegrini had high praise for Leicester.
"A lot of things went wrong. We played against a very good team," Pellegrini wrote on Twitter. "It's fair to give the merit they have, they're playing well. If Leicester continues playing the way they are, (they are favorites). There are 13 games more so it's difficult to predict."
Leicester faces another tough test with an away match against Arsenal on Valentines Day at Emirates Stadium in London.
