Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy was reportedly involved in a violent altercation with three off-duty police officers in Philadelphia on Sunday night. Former NFL running back Curtis Brinkley was also involved in the assault, which took place at a nightclub called Recess in the Old Town area of Philadelphia at about 2:45 a.m., according to CSN Philly.
At least two of the officers were hospitalized as a result of the incident and McCoy is currently under investigation, per 6ABC.
UPDATE, 2:00 p.m.: TMZ is reporting that Philadelphia police believe all four suspects, including McCoy, are NFL players.
The three off-duty police officers purchased four bottles of champagne for the evening, according to CSN. When one officer, Roland Butler, attempted to take his bottle and move elsewhere, a former University of Pittsburgh football player, Tamarcus Porter, approached Butler regarding ownership of the bottle.
McCoy, Brinkley and another man attempted to intervene on Porter's behalf and a fight ensued. As a result, Butler was knocked to the ground and ""punched, kicked and stomped about his body and head multiple times."
The Bills released a statement indicating that they are aware of the incident.
"We are aware of the reports regarding LeSean McCoy and are in the process of gathering more information. We will not provide any further comment at this time."
McCoy, drafted by the Eagles, spent six seasons in Philadelphia before being dealt to the Bills this past offseason.
