On Monday night, DMX was hospitalized after collapsing from what was thought to be a bad asthma attack, but new information reveals that the rapper may have actually suffered an overdose. DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was reportedly found unconscious on the ground of a Ramada Inn parking lot in Yonkers, New York, according to TMZ.
When cops arrived around 6 p.m., they quickly determined him lifeless as he was not breathing and he did not have a pulse. They immediately began CPR and after about a minute, his pulse came back.
One witness told the cops that the rapper had apparently ingested some sort of powder before he collapsed, which is a much different story than the original asthma attack. His entourage believed he had an asthma attack, and they began looking for his inhaler after he started complaining of shortness of breath and pain in his chest, which TMZ originally reported. Since this eyewitness told the cops about this powder, they gave him Narcan, which is an antidote used for narcotic overdose. He then became "semiconscious" and was taken to the hospital.
He is currently in stable condition, thanks to the cops, and no criminal charges are expected.
DMX had some legal trouble last year when he was arrested in October 2015 for failing to pay $10,000 in child support to his ex-wife Tashera Simmons for their four children, as HNGN previously reported. Just one month before that, he spent two months in jail for failing to pay child support to a different woman.
