Newborn Giraffe Needs A Name, Help Out The Indianapolis Zoo And Vote

On Jan. 9, the Indianapolis Zoo welcomed a baby reticulated giraffe, and we gave you this news on Pets Happy Zone a few weeks ago. Now, the time has come to name the little guy, who is curious, adventurous and happy, and keeps close to his mom.

Zookeepers have taken to the Indianapolis Zoo's Facebook to create a public poll to see which of the preselected names suits the giraffe best, reported WTHR.

At the zoo, newborns are given names that are in accordance with their species' natural home. The three options for the month-old giraffe's name are inspired by the his species' home continent of Africa. The names are Mshangao, meaning "amazement" or "surprise," Amazu, meaning "no one knows everything" and Jengo, meaning "building" or "construction."

Choosing a name also enters you in a contest to win a zoo prize pack, including a plush toy of a giraffe just like the newborn, said the zoo.

The Indianapolis Zoo also took to its Twitter to ask the public for help naming the cute little guy.

Vote away, giraffe fans! Check back often to find out what the public decided.
