Kanye West is at it again. The rapper debuted his new album "The Life of Pablo" on Thursday at the Yeezy Season 3 show, which featured his new track "Famous" that's getting the most talk because of a particular lyric that disses Taylor Swift. "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex," the lyrics read. "Why? I made that bitch famous." As soon as the song dropped, several people took to social media, including Swift's brother, to slam the rapper for dissing the singer, but West is claiming that she approved of this line.
It's all a little complicated, though. First, sources close to Swift told TMZ that West had personally called Swift to explain that this lyric would be in the song and that it was just a joke, referring to the time at the 2009 VMA Awards when he famously interrupted her acceptance speech. This source then explained that she gave him the thumbs up to go ahead and release the song, and that the two have made mends since that moment.
Not long after, Swift's rep released a statement saying that the singer apparently didn't approve. "Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account," her rep said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, 'I made that bitch famous.'"
West was not happy with this statement, though, because on Friday morning, he did what he does best and posted a series of tweets explaining what really went down between the two.
"I did not diss Taylor Swift and I've never dissed her," the first tweet read. He then continued on, writing, "First thing is I'm an artist and as an artist I will express how I feel with no censorship...2nd thing I asked my wife for her blessings and she was cool with it...3rd thing I called Tyalor and had an hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessing."
He then went on to explain how "bitch" is an "endearing term in hip hop" just as rappers use the N-word.
"5th thing I'm not even gone take credit for the idea...it's actually something Taylor came up with," he added. "She was having dinner with one of our friends who's name I will keep out of this and she told him...I can't be mad at Kanye because he made me famous! #FACTS."
