Cara McCollum: Former Miss New Jersey In Critical Condition Following Car Crash

Former Miss New Jersey Cara McCollum, who competed in the 2014 Miss America pageant, is currently in critical condition. The 24-year-old beauty was involved in a car crash on Monday night when her convertible spun off Route 55 highway in Pittsgrove Township, N.J., and hit a tree, according to Fox News. Her car then spun again, hit two more trees, and ended up in an embankment. McCollum was alone in her car at the time and was wearing a seatbelt when the air bags deployed.

She was brought to the hospital and as of Tuesday remains in critical condition, according to The Associated Press. Details on her injuries have not been disclosed, and the cause of the crash is under investigation, although state police believe she may have been driving too fast on wet roads. They do not believe drugs or alcohol played any factor in the accident.

McCollum is a Margate, N.J., resident who is originally from Arkansas and attended Princeton University, according to Us Weekly. She won the 2013 Miss New Jersey competition and currently is an anchor on the Southern New Jersey area's local news program "SNJ Today."

"Cara is a beloved member of our 'SNJ Today' family," "SNJ Today" said in a statement on Tuesday. "She and her family are in our thoughts and prayers."
