"Guardians of the Galaxy" writer/director James Gunn took to Facebook earlier this morning to confirm the long-gestating casting of Kurt Russell as Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) father in the highly anticipated sequel, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." In addition to the official announcement, Gunn shared the first official photo for the film along with a nice personal message.
Official photography on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has started, and I couldn't be more stoked. My favorite movie as...

Of the new cast members he mentions, it is possible that Pom Klementieff could be the new team member Gunn has been teasing over the last few days. He has confirmed that she will be playing Marvel comics character Mantis, though it is unknown how her character will fit into the story. As can be seen in the photo, Baby Groot is going to need some time before he's as big and strong as his predecessor. As such, it's no surprise that the Guardians may be on the lookout for some added muscle. Mantis is the most likely candidate as of right now to help out.
The original film became a surprise critical darling during its summer 2014 run and ended up grossing north of $770 million at the worldwide box office. As one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most successful entries to date, we can't wait to see what Gunn has up his sleeve for the follow-up.
Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
