As expected, the Xbox One is already off to a good start as Microsoft has announced its next-generation console has sold one million units around the world since its launch on Nov. 22.
"We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world," said Xbox's Yusuf Mehdi, via IGN. "Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season."
The sales have exceeded that of the Xbox One's predecessor from Microsoft, the Xbox 360. Meanwhile, the console's real competitor from Sony's PlayStation 4 has reported similar sales of 1 million units sold 24 hours after its initial launch.
While sales figures are a good indication of how the market is doing, it's hardly as fun as some of the other stats the company revealed for us. IGN reports that, since the launch of the Xbox One gamers have driven 3.6 million miles in "Forza Motorsport 5," killed 60 million zombies in "Dead Rising 3," pulled off 7.1 million combos in "Killer Instinct" and have slaughtered 8.5 million in "Ryse: Son of Rome."
Many were concerned the Xbox One would not fair about the same as it's doing against Sony's PlayStation 4 following the huge backlash from its presentation of the console a few months ago at this year's E3 2013 gaming conference. However, thanks to policy changes and a lineup of impressive titles, Microsoft has bounced back and is apparently standing on equal ground with Sony's new device.
