While you're off killing zombies in "Dead Rising 3", you'll soon realize upgrading your weapons and food combos will allow things to go a little smoother as you attempt to escape the city.
As the game progresses, Nick will find Weapon Blueprints that will allow him to create a more powerful arsenal. You'll need specific items for the combos, so be on the lookout for the Blueprints.
"Combo Categories upgrades can be exceptionally useful for creating devastating weapons with limited resources," according to IGN. "The concept is fairly simple: Each random pickup you can find around the city of Los Perdidos is designated as a specific item type. Baseball bats, lead pipes, 2x4s, wrenches, and parking meters (just to name a few) are all considered 'Blunt Objects'. If you purchase the 'blunt' combo category, that means that you can use ANY blunt object as a substitute when crafting a weapon that requires that object type."
"For example, to craft a Heavy Metal (2x4 + Lead Pipe) you could find both of the specific items necessary to build that weapon. OR one could purchase the Blunt category from the upgrades screen, then build a Heavy Metal using any two blunt items they happen to find," IGN explained.

Another crafting aspect to keep in mind is your Food Combos. It's the same concept you've seen in past "Dead Rising" titles, but if you're new to the gaming series it's easy to catch on.
"After purchasing this Combo Category, Nick gains the ability to combine different food items," IGN explained. "These can range anywhere from smoothies that boost Nick's speed to masterfully-crafted hot dogs that fully restore his health."
