Sandy Duncan's return to Broadway was short-lived after she dropped out of the "Peter Pan" prequel "Finding Neverland" days after making her debut in the musical on Feb. 12, according to The Associated Press.
The actress, who featured as Peter Pan on Broadway between 1979 and 1981, left the Broadway production after only five performances and cited "family obligations" as the reason behind her departure.
"The producers of Broadway's 'Finding Neverland' regretfully announce that the beloved stage and screen actress Sandy Duncan, who recently joined the magical production in the role of Madame Du Maurier, must take an immediate, yet temporary, leave of absence from the show due to family obligations," the show's producers said, according to Variety.
However, some reports suggest that the actress exited the musical after having difficulty with her lines and her blocking. "She struggled with her lines and her blocking. It was frustrating for everyone," said a source, according to New York Daily News.
"Finding Neverland" is an adaptation of the 2004 film with the same name and follows the story of J.M. Barrie and his relationship with the family that gave him the inspiration to write "Peter Pan."
Duncan was tapped to replace Carolee Carmello in the production as Madame du Maurier. Understudy Kristy Cates will now take Duncan's place, alongside Tony Yazbeck, Kelsey Grammer and Laura Michelle Kelly.
