Matt Damon's "The Great Wall" has been moved to 2017 by Universal. The action-adventure 3-D film, which was originally slated to release on Nov. 23, will now hit theaters on Feb. 17, 2017, according to Variety.
The project, produced by Legendary Entertainment, follows the story of "an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the world's most iconic structure."
Damon stars alongside "Game of Thrones" actor Pedro Pascal, William Dafoe and Chinese actors Andy Lau, Zhang Hanyu and Eddie Peng. Zhang Yimou, whose credits include Christian Bale-starrer "The Flowers of War" and "House of Flying Daggers," will helm the project. "The Great Wall" will be Yimou's first English-language film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film's new President's Day weekend slot means it will now compete against Sony's "Bad Boys 3" and 20th Century Fox's "Maze Runner: The Death Cure," which open on the same day, The Wrap reported.
"The Great Wall" was initially set to hit theaters alongside holdover "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and new releases such as Disney's "Moana," "Bad Santa 2" and an untitled Robert Zemeckis thriller starring Brad Pitt.
