"Bring Back Brian." That's what fans of "Family Guy" are tweeting after the shocking death of the show's most beloved character. On last night's episode (Nov. 24) Brian Griffin, the talking family dog, died after being hit by a car.
"You've given me a wonderful life. I love you all," Brian said before the doctor made the sad announcement that he was dead.
Brian has been on the show since the first episode in 1999. The show's producer Steve Callaghan explained the idea to E! Online saying that the death was first brought up during a meeting with the writers and they thought it would be a "fun way to shake things up."
"As soon as this idea came up, we started talking about what the next couple episodes could be and we got very excited about the way this change will affect the family dynamics and the characters," he said.
Clearly fans were shocked and upset over the death tweeting their reactions to Callaghan and Seth MacFarlane, the show's creator.
"I still can't believe they killed Brian off of Family Guy #RIP," @NadiLaTrini wrote.
"Family Guy ruined my day, you b***rds," @_SamHugsxo tweeted.
"Shocked to hear there will be no more Brian on #FamilyGuy," @RealRickyH posted.
"They really killed off Brian on Family Guy?! There is no Family Guy without Brian!" @desiree_olyy posted.
The Griffins will get a new pet named Vinny, voiced by "Sopranos" star Tony Sirico. Callaghan said it was MacFarlane's idea to bring Sirico along telling E! that they felt they needed to bring a new pet into the storyline right away to fill that void.
"Losing Brian, it felt like a void needed to be filled both comically, and also for the interpersonal relationships between the characters," he said. "We felt that we needed to fill that role."
It will take "Family Guy" fans time to warm up to the idea of a new family pet but some Twitter users were completely against the idea of a replacement being added so soon after Brian's death.
Twitter user @JerezKaye wrote "Very disappointed with last nights family guy. I will not be watching any episodes with Vinny Griggin. #BringBackBrian."
"I don't even like Vinny #familyguy," @SharonMcKay tweeted.
