WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Marvel's "Daredevil" on Netflix.
Marvel fans have been waiting patiently for the return of "Daredevil" ever since the Netflix series' first season exceeded all expectations last year. However, as much as fans love Matt Murdock, it is the knowledge that season two will also include fan favorite comic book character Frank Castle/Punisher that has everyone most excited. Jon Bernthal will take on the role of Punisher, and Empire Magazine has the exclusive inside sneak peek at one of his action-packed scenes. Be warned: NSFW spoilers ahead.
"The actor playing 'Man Justifiably Terrified' By The Punisher wrenches open the door and limps through the cabin into his chambers. After a beat, Bernthal - assault rifle in the read position - follows. Gunfire is exchanged, and the scene ends with The Punisher standing over the man as he begs for his life. Bernthal takes out a handgun and puts it in the man's mouth. Lost in character, Bernthal calls the man a 'c---sucker.'
"And then, just as Frank is about to castle the poor chap, in barges Charlie Cox as that do-gooding Daredevil. 'Get outta here Red!' yells Bernthal, a line which tells us that, though their methods are different, The Punisher and Daredevil have formed an alliance of sorts. What happens next - Castle leaping up and pushing Daredevil out of the room - tells us that alliance if fairly brittle."
Well, no surprise here, Bernthal's Punisher sounds like an absolute badass. It's expected that he and Daredevil would be at odds given their, err, varying forms of justice. But it's nice to hear that Castle isn't ready to just kill the well-intended Daredevil just for getting in his way. Punisher may be a remorseless killer, but he's not a bad guy, if you know what I mean. No wonder Marvel and Netflix are reportedly considering a spinoff show for the character.
Fans will be able to check this scene out for themselves and more when Netflix makes the second season of "Daredevil" available for streaming on Friday, March 18.
