The trailer serves as an extended introduction into Frank Castle/Punisher. It begins with an eerie voice-over in which we can decipher that he is a man who has lost is family and isn't dealing with the tragedy so well. From there we get quick shots of Punisher...Punishing things? There are guns and explosions, and we are told that Hell's Kitchen's "new player" is targeting bad guys and taking them out with "military precision."
Obviously, this doesn't sit well with the righteous Matt Murdock. But is that because he knows Punisher's actions may be justified to a certain extent? As you can hear Castle tell him, "You're a half measure." Or, as we saw last season, perhaps Matt is afraid of how easily he can accept Castle's approach. "You're just one bad day away from becoming me," Punisher tells a bloodied and bruised Daredevil.
These conflicting ideologies will be at the center of season two's storyline and promise some explosive action. But that's not all that has caught our eye.
The final frames of the trailer reveal Elektra, a name comic book fans know all too well, showing up unannounced in Matt's apartment. Clearly, his former love interest has a few gifts of her own. What kind of role will she play in season two, and more importantly, whose side will she be on? Lucky for us, Netflix plans to release a second full-length trailer on Feb. 25 to tease us just a bit more.
Until then, what did you think, "Daredevil" fans? Do you like what you've seen of season two so far? How does Jon Bernthal stack up as iconic anti-hero Punisher? Let us know in the comments below.
"Daredevil" will return to Netflix for season two on March 18.
