An English man has legally changed his name to his favorite sandwich! Simon Smith, from the London suburb Muswell Hill, is now officially known as Bacon Double Cheeseburger. After too many drinks at a pub one night, the 33-year-old man’s friends convinced him to change his name to something he enjoys, reported Fox News.
“It was largely the most ridiculous thing we could think of. My friends were quite supportive of anything that makes me look silly, as good friends are,” he told the Evening Standard, adding, “Bacon Double Cheeseburger was pretty much the first thing that came up. Everyone loves bacon - don’t they?”
All Cheeseburger had to do to make the name change legal was file the necessary paperwork with the U.K. Deed Poll Service.
He told the Evening Standard that he signs work emails as “B D Cheeseburger,” and that his mother was “furious” with the name change, but his father “thinks it’s hilarious.” His fiancée Isabella, however, is not happy.
“My fiancée is fairly reluctant about marrying a Cheeseburger,” he told the Evening Standard. “No girl ever dreams of spending her big day marrying a man called Bacon.”
Isabella may change her mind, though, as Burger King – the fast food chain Cheeseburger was inspired by when choosing a new moniker – has offered to help cater their wedding, according to the Express. The company is offering the couple the chance to create an original cheeseburger, which Burger King would serve to guests at their upcoming nuptials.
More than 85,000 British people changed their names last year, according to Playboy, who revealed some of the more crazy names: Penelope Pitstop, Happy Birthday, Sarge Metalfatigue, Simply MyLove Poet, Kenny Roses For Poses and Michael Connor Lightning Akimbo Wumbo Wigglesworth Pussyfoot Katzenjammer.
