A one-of-a-kind record cut in 1962 by The Beatles before they were signed has been put up for auction. The previous owner, Les Maguire of Liverpool's '60s band Gerry and the Pacemakers, had had the record in his attic for 50 years, since Beatles' manager Brian Epstein gave it to him. The record was the one that "sparked the Beatles' success," said Maguire, according to the Independent.
One side of the record has the song "'Til There Was You," attributed to Paul McCartney and The Beatles, and the other side has "Hullo Little Girl," misspelled by Epstein, which is attributed to John Lennon and The Beatles, reported the BBC.
The record will be auctioned March 22 at Omega Auctions in Warrington, U.K., reported CBC, and it's thought that it will be sold for at least £10,000. The record is the "holy grail" that got The Beatles' "ball rolling to musical world domination," said Ian Shirley, the editor of "Rare Record Price Guide," according to CBC.
The record is being auctioned off because Maguire's granddaughter wants to buy a house. "I've never been a big fan of memorabilia, but people seem to like it. It's no good to me, so I've given it to my granddaughter, who is hoping to buy a house after passing her accountancy exams. I hope it goes for a good price," said Maguire, according to the BBC.
