Lady Gaga wowed the Oscars for the second year in a row when the singer took to the stage to perform her song "Til It Happens To You" from the documentary "The Hunting Ground." The singer was introduced by Vice President Joe Biden and sat behind a white grand piano to belt out her song, which was nominated for Best Original Song.
The song was co-written by Gaga and famed songwriter Diane Warren and is about surviving sexual assault. The "The Hunting Ground" is a documentary that focuses on sexual assault on college campuses, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Biden walked onstage to introduce his "friend and a courageous lady" Lady Gaga to a standing ovation. "Take the pledge, which says I will intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given," Biden said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Let's change the culture. We must and we can change the culture, so that no abused woman or man, ever has to ask themselves what did I do. They did nothing wrong."
Gaga then appeared from behind the gorgeous piano and performed the ballad. Toward the end of her rendition of the Oscar-nominated song, a group of both male and female sexual assault survivors walked out on the stage to join Gaga for the remainder of the song. All the sexual assault survivors had phrases like "Not Your Fault," "Survivor" and "It Happened To Me" written on their arms.
At the end of her wonderful performance, the audience full of Hollywood heavy hitters stood up to applaud the singer, while some stars like Rachel McAdams and Kate Winslet were visibly moved, according to the Huffington Post. Gaga lost the Oscar for Best Original Song to Sam Smith for "Writings on the Wall" from the latest James Bond film "Spectre."
