The Houston Texans have released safety Rahim Moore after just one season with the franchise. Moore was not as productive as the Texans had hoped, resulting in his release. The 26-year-old safety played in seven games but only started in six of them. He would go on to record 16 combined tackles, two pass defenses and an interception. In Moore's career (so far) he as recorded 212 combined tackles, a sack, 22 pass defenses, 9 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.
Releasing Moore will free up $4,068,750 in cap space and should allow the Texans to be more flexible in free agency. The Texans now have $39,689,427 million in cap space and could be suiting up for a run at soon-to-be free agent Brock Osweiler.
The Texans released Arian Foster earlier in the day as they grew impatient with his propensity to get injured as well as his age. Releasing Foster freed up $6.625 million in cap space. The Texans also cut tight end Garrett Graham which should create an additional $3.125 million in cap space.
Graham had been with the Texans since 2010, and in his time with the franchise he recorded 100 receptions, 1,059 receiving yards, 10.6 yards per reception and 10 touchdowns. The 29-year-old had plenty of injury issues as well, which forced the Texans to release him.
The Texans will have five other free agents fans should keep an eye on as they all could be released prior to the start of free agency. The Texans have two primary members of their running game, Chris Polk and Jonathan Grimes, about to hit free agency, and it doesn't appear they are looking to re-sign either player. The Texans running backs did a lousy job of taking advantage of Foster being injured, so now it appears as if they will look for players who can get it done.
Wide receiver Nate Washington could also be on his way out as he is 32 and is beginning to decline. The Texans will also have two of the quarterbacks on their roster hitting free agency as well. Both Brandon Weeden and T.J. Yates will likely need to find work elsewhere as the Texans look to find a franchise quarterback in the 2016 offseason.
