With excitement surrounding "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" finally starting to die down, Lucasfilm and "Star Wars" fans everywhere are starting to turn their attention to "Rogue One," which will arrive later this year. However, the studio is yet to reveal any footage from the first ever "Star Wars" spinoff feature, which is a bit odd. If you'll remember, fans were treated to their first glimpse of "The Force Awakens" more than a year before its eventual release.
But we're not the only ones interested in catching a glimpse of this new offering. Disney also has stockholders to answer to and it sounds as if they are the ones who got the first sneak peak at "Rogue One."
According to /Film, Disney CEO Bob Iger unveiled a sizzle reel with footage from the upcoming Anthology story while at a shareholder's meeting in Chicago earlier this week. He also reportedly confirmed the long held belief that the events in the film will take place in between "Episode III" and "Episode IV" on the "Star Wars" timeline.
The standalone movie - starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker and Mads Mikkelsen - will revolve around a group of rebels attempting to steal the plans for the original Death Star. The new footage, according to someone in attendance at the meeting, offers a bit more insight.
The reel contains "a shot of [a] black stormtrooper, possible called Death Troopers," and also "two AT-ATs that had a slightly different look with the door panel on the side of the body painted a lighter beige color."
In terms of cast appearances, there was "[Jones'] character on what looked like the inside of a ship or shuttle with her arm holding on and the hatch/ramp open behind her."
What was the ultimate takeaway?
"It all looked great, had a classic Star Wars/A New Hope look and feel."
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as if "Star Wars" fans will be laying their eyes on this footage anytime soon. For now, all we have are the previously released cast photos and a crop of rumors that have surfaced in recent months.
"Rogue One" will be Lucasfilm's first "Star Wars" standalone film. The studio also has plans for a young Han Solo movie scheduled for a 2018 release.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit theaters on December 16.
