Jada Pinkett Smith seems to not be fazed by the joke Chris Rock made about her during his opening monologue at the 2016 Oscars. While walking though Los Angeles International Airport, the actress was asked about the now famous joke.
For the second year in a row, there were zero people of color nominated in the four big acting categories. Pinkett Smith vowed to boycott the Oscars due to the lack of diversity, and Rock made the diversity issue a main theme throughout his performance as host of the award show. Rock dissed her, along with husband Will Smith, who also said he would boycott to support his wife.
"What happened this year? People went nuts. Spike [Lee] got mad. Jada went mad. Will [Smith] went mad. Everyone went mad," Rock said about all the celebs wanting to protest the Oscars. "Jada said she's not coming. I was like, 'isn't she on TV show?' Jada's gonna boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties. I wasn't invited!"
The comedian also said: "Her man Will was not nominated for 'Concussion.' I get it. You get mad. It's not fair that Will was this good and didn't get nominated. You're right. It's also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for 'Wild Wild West!'"
"It comes with the territory, sweetheart," she told photographers as she made her way through LAX. "Hey look, it comes with the territory but we gotta keep it moving. We gotta keep it moving. We gotta keep it moving. There's a lot of stuff we gotta handle, a lot of stuff in our world right now. We gotta keep it moving."
While Pinkett Smith seemed to take Rock's jab well, actor Tyrese took to his Instagram account to defend her against Rock's jokes.
"I didn't watch - I didn't - but online people are talking and someone posted the tasteless joke that Chris Rock did in his opening," the actor captioned a video of him talking about Rock's joke at Pinkett Smith's expense. "Did you really use your STAGE to tear down and diminish one of the strongest most fearless black women IN this town as the world watched??? Jokes are just jokes right???? Not when someone is trying to affect change......... Not when someone is willing to put it ALL on the line to affect change for our daughters and sons of the future........ Shame on you Chris Rock."
