It's been six months since the end of the six-week long social experiment on FYI's hit reality TV series "Married at First Sight" and the arranged married couples made their decisions on whether to stay together or get divorced. It was an emotional decision day for Samantha Role and Neil Bowlus when Bowlus announced he wanted a divorce even though Role wanted to stay married.
In an exclusive sneak peek for the Tuesday night reunion special "Married at First Sight: Six Months Later" obtained by Us Weekly, expert sexologist and sociologist Dr. Pepper Schwartz gives Role the opportunity to say what she needs to say to Bowlus after having watched the full season. Role breaks down in tears as she apologizes to her former husband.
"The first couple weeks were quite rough," Role says, turning to address her former husband. "I am sincerely sorry for the way I behaved, the looks I gave, the nasty comments I made and being so judgmental."
"I'm sad because if I were you, I would've asked for a divorce too because I didn't like what I saw in me," Role continues as she starts to cry. "I don't think that there are words to express how sorry and ashamed I am of how I treated you."
"You don't have to use any words 'cause your emotions tell it all. This is incredibly real. Your words won't tell anything more," Bowlus tells his former wife, and she wraps her arms around him.
The former arranged couple embraces as Role sobs in Bowlus' arms. Their heartbeats can be heard through their microphones as Bowlus holds Role close. When they pull away, Bowlus tries to offer her his sleeve to dry her tears, and she laughs as she takes her glasses off so she can wipe her eyes.
"It's very moving to me how much it hurts you to have hurt him," Pepper tells Role. "I think you need to forgive yourself and love yourself for what you've gone through to become who you are now. I feel this is a very successful situation."
