Darth Vader has posted his first selfie on the Star Wars' official Instagram account.
"Star Wars" fans can now follow their favorite franchise on another social media platform besides Twitter and Facebook. The "Star Wars" Instagram account already has more than 100,000 followers, and Darth Vader's selfie has about 33,000 likes.
With "Star Wars Episode 7" set to begin filming early 2014, the Instagram account could be used to tease fans with behind-the-scenes photos. In fact, two lucky fans have already left their mark on the upcoming film.
In November, StarWars.com confirmed the appearance of R2-D2 in "Star Wars Episode 7." The robot was made by Lee Towersey and Oliver Steeples, Star Wars fans and members of the worldwide R2-D2 Builders Club.
Steeples said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy approached him to help perfect R2-D2. One of Steeples' models of R2-D2 was completed in 2007, taking more than 10 years to complete. Check out the photo of the new R2-D2 below.
Though R2-D2 may be ready, whether the film will be shot in the U.K. or Los Angeles, Calif. is still up for debate, according to director J.J. Abrams.
"It's something that I've always intended to do," Abrams explained to Total Film, referring to filming overseas. "But I'm torn because I have done everything I can to keep the production of my projects in Los Angeles. Yet the opportunity to work with UK crews is something that has always been a dream of mine.
"Of course, that dream existed prior to me being married and having a family, so the reality of making a movie like that for any period of time becomes much more difficult when there are other people that you desperately love and care for involved," the director said.
"Star Wars Episode 7" is set to hit theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
