Fans will learn if Alex Wexler lived or died when Syfy premieres "Sharknado 4" this summer. Syfy announced Tara Reid will return to reveal her character's fate alongside her co-star Ian Ziering, reprising his role as the shark-fighting hero Fin Shepard in the fourth installment of the disaster TV movie franchise.
"Sharknado 4" will premiere in July and pick up the story of Fin and his family five years after the events of "Sharknado 3." In the intervening years, the world has been sharknado-free, but the sharks - and 'nados! - are being whipped up in places (and ways) least expected.
The Syfy movie will also reveal the outcome of the fan-voted #AprilLives or #AprilDies social media campaign. Director Anthony C. Ferrante originally conceived giving Fin and his family a happy ending at the end of "Sharknado 3," but the cable network wanted to continue beyond the established trilogy.
"I wanted to take a page out of some of the classic television stunts that have been done and contemporize them," said Chris Regina, senior VP of program strategy at Syfy and "Sharknado 3" associate producer, about the social campaign. "We needed to do something that was going to keep the audience in jeopardy and want to come back for another 'Sharknado.' That led to the idea that I came up with in having the audience vote."
David Hasselhoff and Ryan Newman will return with Ziering and Reid. The fourth "Sharknado" movie will also welcome Gary Busey, Tommy Davidson, Imani Hakim, Cody Linley, Masiela Lusha and Cheryl Tiegs. See their character descriptions below.

Aston Reynolds (Davidson) - A playboy tech billionaire, Aston is the CEO of tech company Astro-X, developers of a revolutionary energy system that can stabilize the atmosphere and prevent the formation of tornadoes.
Matt (Cody Linley) - After surviving the first Sharknado, Fin and April's eldest son finished flight school and joined the Army. He's experienced the events of the last six years and afar and longs to reunite with his American Hero father.
Gabrielle (Hakim) - Matt's best friend and a fellow soldier, Gabrielle is tough and no-nonsense, can take care of herself and isn't afraid to show what she's capable of doing.
Gemini (Lusha) - Ever resourceful, Fin's cousin Gemini is chock full of shark-busting attitude and is ready to dive into the fight once the sharks hit the fan.
Raye (Tiegs) - Fin's mother and Col. Gil Shepard's ex-wife, Raye is a little bit of a former flower child, but she's not afraid to speak her mind or protect her family.
