The three men who make up the Lonely Island crew, Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone, have released the first trailer for their upcoming film "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping." The mockumentary shows Samberg in the starring role as pop star Connor4Real in the film, which was produced by comedy heavyweight Judd Apatow.
The NSFW trailer introduces viewers to Sandberg's pop star, who makes Bieber at his worst look tame. The film shows what Connor4Real's life is like after the release of his most recent album, which was a complete failure.
"I'd love to get Connor to the point where he's kind of like everywhere," his publicist, played by Sarah Silverman, explains. "Kind of like oxygen or gravity or clinical depression. He's just everywhere."
The film was directed by Schaffer and Taccone and has an incredibly supporting cast, which includes Silverman, Bill Hader as Conner's roadie, Imogen Poots as his girlfriend and Will Forte as his personal bagpiper. In addition to the supporting cast, which heavily features former "Saturday Night Live" stars, Simon Cowell, Carey Underwood, Usher, Snoop Dogg, DJ Khaled, Pink, Martin Sheen, Seal and a hologram of Adam Levine also make appearances in the trailer, which Conner says was "so expensive."
"It takes a village to make me look dope," Connor4Real says in the trailer.
While the trailer only alludes to Bieber and his 2011 3-D concert film "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never," it is pretty clear who the target of the film is.
"Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" is the first film that the Lonely Island crew has made since "Hot Rod" came out in 2007. The threesome first gained recognition for their musical and comedy talents during their time on "Saturday Night Live," where all three worked from 2005 to 2011. Samberg worked as a cast member on the show, while Taccone and Schaffer were writers. The group was mostly known for their digital shorts, including "D-l In a Box," "Jizz in My Pants," "Like a Boss" and "I'm on a Boat." The group also released two full length albums, 2009's "Incredibad" and 2011's "Turtleneck & Chain."
"Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" hits theaters on June 3.
