Zayn Malik just got some fresh ink! The former One Direction member just got a massive makeover with a new hairstyle and three new tattoos, including two on his neck and one on his face. Yes, you heard that right!
The 23-year-old took to Instagram on Friday to share the new avatar with his 7.8 million followers. "Like I Would," he captioned a close-up photo of himself, showing off his shaved head, a hummingbird tattoo next to his collarbone and a huge phoenix tattoo on the side of his face.
The phoenix, which appears to be taking flight, has a ribbon wrapped around it with the words "M.O.M," and no, it's not a dedication to his mother, but a reference to Malik's upcoming first solo album "Mind of Mine," which will be out on March 25.
If you look closely, you can see a surfboard in the background of the selfie with the words "One Direction" written across it.
The singer's third piece of body art is visible in music video producer Nabil Elderkin's Instagram post. It's hard to tell what it is exactly, but it appears to be a rose or flower of some kind.
Malik has been known to experiment with his appearance. The "Pillowtalk" singer even dyed his hair neon pink last month and went bleach blond for his music video with girlfriend Gigi Hadid.
The phoenix is a sign of rebirth in Greek mythology, and the initials of his upcoming album seem to suggest that Malik is sending a message about his solo career without his One Direction mates.
Malik recently opened up about his decision to leave the band on Z100's "Morning Show."
"I feel good! I feel like that's the key thing in life, you know regardless of whatever it is that you do," he said of leaving the band. "You have to always remain true to yourself and do whatever makes you happy because at the end of the day, you answer to yourself so it's a good place to be in. I'm happy about the decision I made."
