The Dallas Cowboys may have missed out on newly re-signed Philadelphia Eagles' cornerback Nolan Carroll, however they may be looking to land another top cornerback in free agency. Former Cincinnati Bengals' cornerback Leon Hall will make a trip to Valley Ranch to visit with the Cowboys.
If he impresses the coaching staff, the Cowboys could sign him on the spot. Hall is a Bengals lifer who has spent 10 years with Cincinnati. He has been one of its starters for quite some time and has a ton of experience. At 31 years old his body may be beginning to decline, however he still has the same instincts that made him one of the most talented cornerbacks in the NFL.
Hall should primarily play in the slot if he gets signed thanks largely in part to Orlando Scandrick's return from a season-ending ACL/MCL tear last season. During the 2015 NFL season Hall recorded four starts, 55 combined tackles, nine pass defenses, two interceptions and a defensive touchdown.
Hall was not a starter for most of the year but played situational roles which kept him fresh throughout the season. Hall has been a very productive cornerback throughout his career as he has recorded 470 combined tackles, 111 pass defenses, 26 interceptions, three defensive touchdowns and five forced fumbles.
If Hall is signed it would make NFL fans wonder about Brandon Carr's future with the team. Carr has been a woefully deficient starter and currently makes way more money than he should. After the Cowboys re-signed Morris Claiborne to a one-year deal it was widely assumed Carr would be released, however no move has been made yet.
Releasing Carr would free up a ton of cap space, and considering the Cowboys just restructured Tyron Smith's contract this could be a huge move in terms of their availability to sign players. This may seem like a weird time to free up cap space, but the Cowboys are looking for free agent bargains, and any money left over would likely go to re-signing some of their offensive linemen in the near future. Hall would instantly be an upgrade to the Dallas secondary and could play a vital role in helping the team rebound from an injury-plagued 2015 campaign.
