The same day it was announced that "Fast and the Furious" actress Gal Gadot would play Wonder Woman in the untitled "Man of Steel" sequel, it was also revealed that Warner Bros. approached actor Callan Mulvey for the role of a villain, Variety reports.
Which villain he is in talks for remains a mystery, but Thinkmcflythink.com reports that Mulvey could be playing Metallo, a villain who wears a metal body suit and has Green Kryptonite for a heart.
A source told the website that Mulvey was also considered to play Lex Luthor at one point but didn't say why Warner Bros. changed their minds. There have been rumors that Denzel Washington and Idris Elba are both frontrunners to play Lex.
According to the source, Idris has already tested for the role and "nothing ever materialized" after Washington was approached. Reportedly "a certain re-occurring [African-American] cast member from 'Arrow'" was also in talks for the role. That could mean both David Ramsey and Colin Salmon are also being considered.
"It appears they are testing actors from all ethnicities to portray the billionaire arch-nemesis of [Superman]," the website writes.
It was rumored in the past that Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Mark Strong (Green Lantern) were also in talks to play Lex Luthor. Yesterday after Warner Bros. announced that Gadot would play the superheroine in the "Batman Vs. Superman" movie, director Zack Snyder explained to Deadline why they felt the 28-year-old actress was perfect for the role.
"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role," Snyder said. "We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."
The "Man of Steel" sequel hits theaters July 17, 2015.
