Jets' Darrelle Revis Undergoes Wrist Surgery

The New York Jets saw a massive improvement under first year head coach Todd Bowles last season with six more wins and a 10-6 record. They finished the 2015 season with the fourth best defense in the NFL in terms of yards allowed per game, and received a big boost with the return of cornerback Darrelle Revis.

The Jets cornerback returned to New York after winning a Super Bowl with AFC East rival New England Patriots, and proved his effectiveness immediately, recording 39 combined tackles, four fumble recoveries, nine passes defended and five interceptions. Revis led the Jets with nine takeaways last season, and New York is looking for the veteran corner to have another big season heading into his 10th year in the league.

Today, the Jets announced that their star corner had undergone a procedure on his right wrist that will require him to be in a hard cast for two to three months. Revis is expected to be limited during the offseason program, but the team believes he will be fully recovered in time for training camp.

The injury reportedly happened back in Week 3 of the 2015 season and Revis played through the pain thinking he had just sprained his wrist. The Jets veteran corner reportedly had a torn ligament in his wrist, and it wouldn't be surprising if the Jets took extra caution with Revis in the lead up to the 2016 season.

Revis missed two games during the 2015 season with a concussion and, outside of a torn ACL in 2012, has been a durable player since entering the league. The Jets lost some key pieces in free agency this offseason with Damon Harrison signing with the New York Giants and Demario Davis signing with the Cleveland Browns, but should still have one of the best defenses in the AFC with players like Sheldon Richardson, David Harris, Leonard Williams and Muhammad Wilkerson all likely to be back next season.

The Jets have been seeking a trade for Wilkerson, but a potential trade is reportedly becoming very difficult as the franchise tag has him earning $15.7 million in 2016. While it's uncertain what will happen with Wilkerson in New York, look for the Jets to slowly bring Revis back, as they know how important he will be to their success next season.
