Jessa Seewald's relationship with her older sister Jana Duggar has improved over the year as both girls got older - but they didn't always get along. Old sibling rivalries threaten to resurface on the Tuesday episode of TLC's hit "19 Kids and Counting" spin-off reality TV series "Jill and Jessa: Counting On" when Seewald (née Duggar) enlists her sister's help with a home improvement project.
In a sneak peek for tonight's episode, Duggar arrives at Seewald's house which she shares with her husband Ben Seewald and the couple's infant son Spurgeon. Seewald explains that since her home has a more traditionalist design, each room only has one light source in the center of the ceiling which makes for a not-so-ideal lighting concept. She trusts her sister's eye for design and knack for project management to help brighten up her living spaces.
"A lot of us kids are really great about talking about our big ideas, but when it comes to getting something done, you gotta get Jana involved," Seewald says in her on-camera interview. "She's just so good at that, like you could sit around and chat about something, and she's like, 'Yeah, here's the plan' and starts writing it out. She'll just get in there and get it done."
Duggar walks around the living room and the master bedroom, surveying the lighting fixtures that are already in place. She offers her younger sister some suggestions, pulling up some examples on her phone of artistic design ideas using rope and Christmas lights - but Seewald doesn't like any of Duggar's ideas and makes a face in disagreement.
Seewald explains that when the girls were younger, Duggar would take a leadership role as the oldest Duggar daughter. She would take charge of all of her younger sisters, gather them around and fix up their hair, help them pick out outfits and plan a day full of fun activities for them. But Seewald would go against her older sister's ideas and suggest other plans which led to a bit of a rivalry between the two.
"She'll be like, 'We're gonna do this,' and I'd be like, 'No we're not.' She's like, 'We're gonna wear this,' and I'm like, 'No we're not,'" Seewald says with a laugh. "So we clashed heads a little bit when we were younger, but now that we're older we work together well. Sometimes she'll take charge of the project, sometimes she'll let me lead, but we get along a lot better now."
