Square Enix yesterday released the first part of a stream series titled "Star Log," which gave viewers a glimpse of what to expect when "Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness" comes to the West later this year. During the stream, not only did fans get to learn more about the story and characters, but the team on deck also answered several questions.
The hype leading up to the stream was huge. Not only did Square Enix use its newly-started "Star Ocean" twitter account to advertise the stream for the highly-anticipated title, but expectations were high because of a precedent it set with its "Final Fantasy XV"-themed stream series, Active Time Reports.
Square Enix lived up to expectations in the first episode and came out swinging, revealing, most importantly, that "Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness" for the PlayStation 4 will come out this summer in North America and Europe. This is huge news for fans, who if you were to ask them about Star Ocean 5 over a year ago, would likely tell you that a new entry is unlikely to be released. Furthermore, it's a huge departure from traditional JRPGs where the title would come out in Japan, but fans abroad would have to wait a year (if they were lucky) to see the game hit their region. Instead, fans just have to wait a few months after it comes out in Japan on March 31 for the PS4 and April 28 for the PS3.
The first episode of Star Log also revealed that the game will have dual audio, meaning that users can switch between the original Japanese and English voice-overs. This is a nice touch for Square Enix and developer tri-Ace to add as dual audio has become an increasingly requested feature in JRPGs as of late. Some gamers can't stand English audio for a variety of reasons, so hearing the game in its native Japanese language allows them to enjoy the game without being subjected to the U.S. dub.
Additionally, Square Enix debuted a few trailers that allow players to hear the English voice-overs for various characters, the first of which was was the Story Trailer which expands on an updated version of the Jump Festa trailer that SE revealed earlier this month.
The other two trailers focused on the game's protagonist, Fidel Camuze and the heroine, Miki Sauvester.
Unfortunately the high that comes with new information is inevitably followed by the low that comes with not knowing when more will come. Square Enix has yet to announce on its official "Star Ocean" Twitter page when the next stream will air, so we're left with last night's reveals and three trailers while we wait. However, with a slated Summer 2016 release, the wait shouldn't be too long.
