Oklahoma's Sterling Shepard Most Underrated WR In 2016 NFL Draft Class

The 2016 NFL Draft class is loaded with future NFL stars, and while some considered the wide receiver group in this year's class not as strong as years past, there are definitely some talented playmakers that will make a name for themselves on Sundays.

Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell is considered the top receiver by most draft analysts in this year's class, but there are plenty of receivers who are going under the radar in the lead-up to the draft. One player to keep a look out for is Oklahoma wide receiver Sterling Shepard, as he should be considered one of the most underrated prospects in this year's draft class.

The Sooners receiver is considered one of the top-ten underrated offensive players in the entire class, and could be the next sleeper pick to explode onto the NFL scene his rookie year. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound slot receiver has drawn comparisons with Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who had an impressive rookie season last year, recording 51 receptions for 664 yards with six touchdowns.

While Shepard's numbers his rookie season will likely depend on where he lands in the draft, he could easily have the same impact on an offense as Lockett did in Seattle. "I played against his daddy and he was really talented, but Sterling picked up where his dad left off and then took it way further," said one AFC area scout. "He's a great person and leader too. He's going to be a star in the pros."

The young receiver improved each season for the Sooners, and was a major reason why Oklahoma made the College Football Playoffs last year. Shepard recorded 86 receptions for 1,288 yards and scored 11 touchdowns in his senior season, and despite the loss in the Orange Bowl against Clemson, he still managed seven catches for 87 yards.

The Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, and Philadelphia Eagles could all be in the market for a talented young player like Shepard, and his landing spot will likely depend on how far down the board he slides in the draft. Shepard should be considered a rare talent, and while he may be a reach early in the first round, he could end up being a steal in the second or third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
