"Gran Turismo 6" is having a relatively slow launch, at least relative to its predecessor. According to UK Chart-Track figures have revealed that the latest installment in the popular driving simulator franchise is lagging behind "Gran Turismo 5" considerably. The data points to the new game selling close to five times less than its predecessor.
"Gran Turismo 6" entered the All Formats Top Ten at number eight, losing out to "Call of Duty: Ghosts," "FIFA 14," "Battlefield 4," "Assassin's Creed IV," "Grand Theft Auto V," "LEGO Marvel" and "Just Dance 2014." "Gran Turismo 6" landed on the individual formats Top ten at number three behind "Call of Duty: Ghosts" on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, at positions one and two respectively. GT6 was the only new entry on the list.
According to IGN, there are a few factors to consider that might account for "Gran Turismo 5" doing better in sales than the new game in the series. For starters, GT5 was released on a Wednesday in Europe (Nov. 24, 2010) while GT6 was released on a Friday. Also, GT6 was released a week after the launch of the PlayStation 4. While these may be contributing factors, it's still quite a deficit for the latest title.
It is likely sales of the game will pick up once people sort out their next-gen concerns with the holiday season. After Dec. 25 there will likely be more people, loved ones or children, who will have a brand new console and want to purchase next-gen games. If "GT6" is available on the PlayStation 4 by then, sales might improve. However, now for the PlayStation 3 the game is lagging behind expectations in sales.
As Gamespot notes, it's important to understand that the Chart-Track's data does not include any sales of "Gran Turismo 6" made through the PlayStation Network as digital channels are not monitored.
