Whoopi Goldberg Launches Her Own Medical Marijuana Products For Period Cramp Relief

Whoopi Goldberg is getting into a new line of business - the marijuana business. The Academy Award-winning actress is launching a new medical marijuana line that is geared specifically towards women to sooth period cramps.

Today, Goldberg announced that she teamed up with the founder of Om Edibles, Maya Elisabeth, to create the company Whoopi & Maya. The outspoken weed advocate said that one of her sources of inspiration for her new business venture was two of her adult granddaughters, who suffer from severe menstrual cramps. "The View" co-host said that her marijuana vaping pen worked so well with helping her treat glaucoma-related headaches, she figured it could be used to treat other medical issues as well.

The line offers four different types of products: a balm, a tincture, a sipping chocolate and a bath soak.

"I want to go nice and slow with this," Goldberg said. "I don't want this to be a joke to people. It's not a joke to women."

The actress said the products were made to be discreet in order for all types of women to use them, especially those who are not comfortable enough to smoke actual marijuana.

"This, you can put it in your purse," Goldberg said. "You can put the rub on your lower stomach and lower back at work, and then when you get home you can get in the tub for a soak or make tea, and it allows you to continue to work throughout the day."

For women who are less experienced using marijuana, the Whoopi & Maya line includes products made only with cannabidiol, which will not give users the "high" feeling associated with the drug.

"For me, I feel like if you don't want to get high high, this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort," she said. "Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can't smoke a joint and go to work."

Goldberg is hardly the first person in Hollywood to associate their name with the medical marijuana business. The family of reggae legend Bob Marley partnered with a cannabis company to produce Marley Natural products, while Snoop Dogg recently launched his new marijuana venture Leafs by Snoop.

Whoopi & Maya products will be available starting in April, but will only be sold in California for now, where medical marijuana is legal.
