Cara Delevingne Reveals Her Battle With Depression

Cara Delevingne never quit the fashion industry, she was only taking a break. That's what the English fashion model turned actress stated in a Twitter rant last night where she addressed the rumors herself and bravely revealed that her battle with depression is the real reason for her hiatus.

Delevingne took to Twitter shortly after fashion house Saint Laurent announced her as the new face of their campaign and Delevingne posted teaser photos on Instagram. Many outlets reported that her new gig marked it as her return or modeling comeback, but the "Paper Towns" star wanted it to make it clear - she never left.

"Can we just set the record straight," the 23-year-old model tweeted. "I never said I was quitting modeling. I do not blame the fashion industry for anything. I suffer from depression and was a model during a particularly rough patch of self hatred. I am so lucky for the work I get to do but I used to work to try and escape and just ended up completely exhausting myself."

"I am focusing on filming and trying to learn how to not pick apart my every flaw. I am really good at that. Okay.... Rant over. Just wanted to clarify and word vomit a little," she continued.

She first explained her hiatus from modeling in an interview with The Times UK last August when she revealed that she wasn't taking on any fashion work at the time because she suffered from psoriasis - an autoimmune disease that causes red, scaly patches on skin. She explained that the stress from modeling plus her battle with depression made her condition worse.

"People would put on gloves and not want to touch me because they thought it was, like, leprosy or something," she admitted to The Times UK (via E! News). "It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse."

After taking a break from modeling, Delevingne focused more of her energy on her acting career. She has an upcoming role as Enchantress in the DC Comics superhero movie "Suicide Squad," which is due out in August.
