If you're a fan of AMC's "Better Call Saul," you've likely squealed with delight every time a familiar face from "Breaking Bad" has shown up. This season, showrunners Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan have treated fans not only to a Tuco appearance, but also one of his uncle Hector (Ding!) and even The Twins.
But we're still waiting to catch a glimpse of Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman. Lucky for us, that could be coming sooner than we think.
Earlier this morning, Paul was out promoting his new Hulu series "The Path" when asked when Jesse might be showing up on "Better Call Saul."
"I don't know," Paul said. "Maybe this season. Who knows? Maybe."
While Paul was noncommittal about a potential cameo, he did admit that he's discussed the possibility with the show's producers.
"Yeah, we've talked about it," Paul said. "They kind of threw some ideas at me. Like, 'What if? What do you think about this?' So the conversations are definitely there, but it has to make sense for the show. They're not just going to throw Jesse in the mix just so the fans can say, 'Oh, look, it's Jesse walking in the background.' It needs to make sense to the show."
One hurdle standing in the way between Jesse Pinkman and "Better Call Saul" is the narrative timeline of the "Breaking Bad" universe. Remember, "Better Call Saul" takes place several years before the original series.
"It is technically a prequel," Paul explained. "It takes place years before Walt and Jesse ever came into the mix. So how old would Jesse be. Middle school? High school? I don't know. It would be pretty great to see Jesse in that skin."
Regardless of whether or not Paul ever makes it to the set of "Better Call Saul," he'll always catch the drama on TV. Like millions of us regular folk, he's a big fan of the series.
"It is not a sequel or a prequel to Breaking Bad whatsoever," he said. "I mean, it has those elements, but they wanted it to be their own show. So it's absolutely a stand-alone show. You can watch Better Call Saul without Breaking Bad. I highly recommend you watch Breaking Bad before, just because it kind of gives you a deeper look into these characters. I love what they're doing."
"Better Call Saul" airs Mondays on AMC at 10 pm ET.
