Last week, Beyoncé shocked the world when she announced her first-ever original clothing line, Ivy Park, and people can't wait to get their hands on the activewear collection when it launches later this month. The 34-year-old "Formation" singer revealed the exciting news with a video of herself sporting several flawless designs from the new line and describing what staying active always meant to her as a kid.
Now, in a rare interview promoting the line, Queen Bey - gracing the latest cover of Elle magazine - explained where the inspiration for Ivy Park came from.
"It's really the essence - to celebrate every woman and the body she's in while always striving to be better. I called it Ivy Park because a park is our commonality," she told the magazine. "We can all go there; we're all welcomed. It's anywhere we create for ourselves. For me, it's the place that my drive comes from. I think we all have that place we go to when we need to fight through something, set our goals and accomplish them."
As for being the founder and creator of the company, she's really enjoying being CEO.
"It's exciting, but having the power to make every final decision and being accountable for them is definitely a burden and a blessing," she added. "To me, power is making things happen without asking for permission. It's affecting the way people perceive themselves and the world around them. It's making people stand up with pride."
The line features 200 pieces ranging from $30 to $200 and will be available at Topshop, Nordstrom and Net-a-Porter starting April 14. In the official debut video, Beyoncé explained what her "park" means to her and how it's the place she always goes before a major event because she feels it gives her strength.
"I would wake up in the morning and my dad would come knocking on my door and tell me it's time to go running," she said. "I remember wanting to stop, but I would push myself to keep going. It taught me discipline, and I would think about my dreams. I would think about the sacrifices my parents made for me. I would think about my little sister and how I was her hero. I would look at the beauty around me - the sunshine through the trees. I would keep breathing."
