The newly released international trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has hit the Web, (pun intended) and is edited a little differently from the intense and dramatic one that debuted in the U.S. a few days ago. This one not only has more footage but has added a touch of humor to the film as well.
Spider-Man has always had a good sense of humor in the comic books and it looks like Andrew Garfield will be leaning heavily on that this time around in the sequel. The new footage shows a half-dressed Spidey vaulting into his bed and under the covers in order to remain hidden from Aunt May. It also features a few lines from Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy accidentally shouting Peter's name through the streets. In order to make room for these bits of comedy, Jamie Foxx's "world without power" monologue as Electro has been cut. This gives the trailer a decidedly less ominous tone as it even eliminates any trace of the Richard Parker/Oscorp conspiracy subplot, as IGN notes.
On Thursday Sony announced that it would be making two spinoff films set in the Spider-Man Universe, one centered around Venom and the other on the Sinister Six. The hope is to expand the film's universe into an Avengers-like franchise in which world of villains and allies of Spider-Man can more easily be explored.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Andrew Garfield has said he's currently got nothing on the books with Sony after a third film in the Amazing Spider-Man films. It's unclear if this means that his contract is simply not set in stone at this point or if the studio has no intentions of carrying his character as Parker into the spinoff films. Another possibility many have speculated on is that Peter Parker will die in the third movie, as he has done in a few different plotlines in the Marvel comic book continuities. However, these theories are all the stuff of rumor until Sony confirms anything officially.
