Charlize Theron Would ‘Love’ To Return to ‘Mad Max’ Series

"Mad Max: Fury Road" was a gamble for Warner Bros. The $150 million (not including marketing) picture was the fourth entry in a franchise that began back in 1980 and the first movie in the series in 30 years. Could the studio really count on nostalgia to bolster this ambitious feature?

As it turned out, the movie had a lot more going for it than just a "blast from the past" element. The gorgeously shot action thriller combined practical effects with a strangely hypnotic subversive vibe to become one of 2015's best movies. But beyond the movie's exciting car crashing capabilities, one aspect that really stood out was Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa.

The character was the epitome of a bad ass and arguably stole the show from Tom Hardy's stoic and titular Max. Many fans were hoping for a spinoff focusing on Furiosa, or at least a prominent role in a potential sequel. But with director George Miller extinguishing the hopes for another go around, that seemed unlikely.

However, Theron is up for it if we all are.

"I would love to bring her back to life! Are you kidding?" Theron said at the MTV Movie Awards. "I can see how people are kind of responding to her. I look at my little girl and I'm like, 'Yeah, I'd love to play this woman again, definitely.'"

Theron went on to say that Miller is still going back and forth on the concept of a sequel, rumored to be titled "Mad Max: The Wasteland." Shortly after "Fury Road's" debut, Miller admitted that he didn't envision Furiosa as a necessary part of future sequels. However, he has since reversed his stance and said that he's open to the idea of a Furiosa-centric entry in the series.

Before Theron returns to the desert for more diesel fueled fun, she'll square off against Vin Diesel himself in "Fast and Furious 8." The Academy Award-winning actress recently signed on to the Universal Pictures sequel as the primary antagonist, joining fellow newcomer Scott Eastwood and franchise mainstays such as Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and others.
