‘The Walking Dead’ Spoilers: Negan May Be Around For Seasons 7 And 8, According to Jeffrey Dean Morgan

AMC's "The Walking Dead" concluded its sixth season earlier this month on a low note. For several years, fans of "The Walking Dead" comic book have been waiting for the arrival of Negan, the most iconic villain from the source material. This season, "The Walking Dead" TV show began teasing Negan's introduction early and often. But when actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan finally graced us with his presence, it was only for one quick scene and it ended with a soap opera-like cliffhanger. The audience disappointment was understandable.

But "The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott Gimple may have an opportunity for redemption. Though Negan's introduction was handled poorly, his time on the show could be extended in order to do his character justice.

"You're going to see Negan do some stuff in the next year or two that's not going to be very nice," Morgan said in a recent interview. So it sounds like Negan will be out and about for both Seasons 7 and 8. That's good news.

With all that extra time, will fans be able to see more of his backstory? Probably not, unfortunately.

Season 7 will feature "stories from [Negan]'s perspective," Gimple said. "The guy you see is the guy he is. There won't be this [big] behind the mask reveal." In other words, don't expect "The Walking Dead" TV show to dig into Negan's backstory and origin too much.

In other "Walking Dead"-related business, viewers probably noticed the two armor-clad gentlemen who met Carol and Morgan during the season finale. Many fans noted their similar appearance to characters from The Kingdom, a popular location in the comic books, and "The Walking Dead" social media account even accidentally spoiled the inclusion of this new locale next season.

So, Gimple, what gives?

"Those guys may or may not have been from The Kingdom," he said. "And we may or may not see The Kingdom. But if we do see The Kingdom, it'll be a big reveal and another new world to inhabit and explore."

"The Walking Dead" will return to AMC for a seventh season in October.
