‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ To Reveal New Details This Summer?

This year has been a big one for major blockbuster movies, and it isn't even quite summer. One movie that has the film industry particularly excited is "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the first non-saga entry in a galaxy far, far away. But as of right now, next to nothing is known about "Rogue One" beyond the very broad story outline.

However, that may change in a few months.

Lucasfilm reportedly plans to have a strong "Rogue One" presence at this year's annual Star Wars Celebration Europe in London. On July 15, president Kathleen Kennedy, "Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards and a handful of other surprise guests will be on hand for a panel devoted to all things "Star Wars." Plus, Mark Hamill will also be making an appearance (that's the cherry on top), though he likely has nothing to do with "Rogue One" as it is technically a prequel on the "Star Wars" timeline. It is assumed that more story and character details will be revealed at the event, perhaps accompanied by some new footage as well.

We haven't seen a studio take such extensive precautions against spoilers and leaks since, well, "Star Wars; The Force Awakens." But Lucasfilm has done everything in its power to limit "Rogue One's" exposure thus far. As of right now, we know that the film will follow a group of Rebel soldiers led by Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso as they attempt (and succeed) to steal the plans for the original Death Star. Thanks to fellow star Mads Mikkelsen, we also have a bit of background on the main characters.

Aside from that, fans are mostly in the dark. This venue provides a perfect opportunity to shed just a bit more light on the intriguing project. Hopefully, Lucasfilm offers up some additional teases.

For now, we'll have to settle for the brief trailer that the studio released last month. At least this quick glimpse looks positively electric!

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will arrive in theaters on Dec. 16. The Star Wars Celebration Europe will be held on July 15.
