‘Captain America: Civil War’ Box Office: Marvel Movie Crosses $300 Million Domestically

Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" is looking like it could be 2016's highest grossing film. On Monday, the blockbuster superhero team-up film earned $4.7 million domestically and $9.4 million internationally for a global total of $14.1 million. That brings Joe and Anthony Russo's second Marvel Cinematic Universe offering to a total of $300.7 million in North America and $656.4 million overseas for a worldwide total of $957.1 million. By Thursday or Friday, "Civil War" will have crossed the coveted $1 billion mark.

Thanks to the financial success of "Captain America: Civil War," Marvel Studios has now earned around $10 billion at the worldwide box office since launching the MCU in 2008 with "Iron Man." That is an impressive accomplishment.

"Civil War's" success is due in large part to the overwhelmingly positive word of mouth it has generated. As opposed to Warner Bros.' "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," (which on "Civil War" star admitted to enjoying) which was met with widespread criticism, "Civil War" earned an A CinemaScore from audiences and boasts an 88 percent from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film cost $250 million to produce, an expense well worth it given the staggering box office totals thus far.

Here's a breakdown of the key international territories so far:

• China: $158.5M
• Korea: $60.2M
• UK: $47.2M

"Captain America: Civil War" stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Joining Evans and Downey Jr. are Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine.
