An 8-year-old Pennsylvania girl whose Christmas wish inspired thousands of carolers to show up to her home has lost her battle with cancer.
Delaney "Laney" Brown died on Christmas day after her seven-month fight with a rare form of cancer, according to multiple reports. Laney's family has been updating the public on their daughter's health conditions through their "Team Laney" Facebook page.
"My heart breaks right now. Our little angel on earth earned her pink glittery angel wings in heaven. She took her last breath at home in her bed at 3:10 surrounded by all her family and friends. I miss her so much already," the family wrote on Dec. 25.
Before Laney died she inspired an event called "Christmas Caroling for Laney" from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, in which almost 10,000 carolers showed up to the 8-year-old's doorstep to sing her favorite Holiday tunes, according to a news release.
Laney's second wish was to meet West Reading, Pa. area native Taylor Swift was also made possible with the help of the organization. According to the family's Facebook page, Laney was able to video chat with the country pop star and the 8-year-old had a "huge smile on her face" while speaking to Swift.
Laney's father took to the "Team Laney" Facebook page to write a touching message about his little girl on Dec. 26.
"This house is still full of all the medical machines and her birthday presents, her Christmas presents, all the beautiful Christmas decorations, and are pets. And thou we are down only one child, this house feels so empty. There used to be a little girl normally already sitting on our couch watching tv when I wake up early in the morning. My life will never be the same since that little angel touched it," her father wrote. (Read the full post here)
