Miss Universe 1996 breaks silence on Donald Trump's body shaming attacks

On what people dubbed as the most-watched debate in presidential history, Republican president nominee Donald Trump has gained attention when he mentioned Alicia Machado's weight, yet again.

It was in 1996, when the19-year-old Venezuelan Alicia Machado won the Miss Universe. That time, business mogul Trump has just bought the pageant, making Machado his first Miss Universe. Following that, Machado described the events in her life as "one of most traumatizing" she ever had.

"I was in some gym in New York like a mouse," she said as quoted by The Guardian.

"Look at that mouse: how she run, how she jump, how she make exercise. Like that. In that moment is when problems come to me and start."

Months after Machado won the Miss Universe crown, she had put on some weight, and Trump had been the constant reminder of how she wished she had not won instead.

On Monday night, it happened again when Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton had brought in Machado, who became a US citizen in August, to prove how Trump lacks respect for women.

"He called this woman Miss Piggy. Then he called her Miss Housekeeping because she was Latina. It was one of the worst things he said," said Clinton.

Donald Trump has once again reminded Machado of what she had experienced with him 20 years ago, when he called her fat one more time.

In an interview with Fox & Friends, Trump said, "She was the worst we ever had. She was the winner, and she gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a real problem."

In 1997, months after the pageant, Trump mentioned that Machado had weighed 118 pounds or 117 pounds, and went up to 170. He even remarked that Machado was 'someone who likes to eat.'

According to People, after the debate, the Clinton campaign released the video of Machado in which she hoped that the voters can realize to turn away from the Republican candidate before it's too late.

"I'm not Miss Universe anymore. I'm a worker, I'm a mother, I have a family, I have my company, and if my story can open eyes in this election, that's what I'm going to try to do," she says.
