A Baltimore, Md. woman is accused of leaving her four-year-old child in a freezing car for eight hours in while she spent time at a local casino on New Year's Eve, the Baltimore Sun reports.
At around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, securtiy workers spotted an unattended child crying in a car outside of the Maryland Live! Casino, according to Anne Arundel County police Lt. T.J. Smith.
The mother, 24-year-old Alicia Denice Brown, has been charged with second-degree child abuse, arrested soon after she left the casino and returned to her car as her child was being prepared for transportation to a local hospital. While the child was upset and cold, they had no apparent signs of physical abuse and appeared otherwise healthy, and was immediately taken to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie.
Temperatures the night of New Year's Eve were near freezing, and the child was apparently left in the car throughout the day.
After Maryland Protective Services were called, the child was released to a relative late Wednesday, as Smith told the Sun.
