It's been a while since we've heard from British songstress Adele, who has taken some time away from the spotlight to focus on her family life (which she keeps intensely private), but most recently, EntertainmentWise reports that she snapped up a never-before-seen portrait of Kate Middleton for her Brighton home.
The exclusive portrait of the Duchess of Cambridge was painted by Darren Coffield, known for the cultural and political references in his work. Adele reportedly commissioned Coffield to paint Middleton after having been impressed by one of his portraits of Albert Einstein, as the artist told the UK Daily Star.
"It's my ironic take on celebrity that made Adele come in to see my work," he said to the newspaper. "I did Kate Middleton and I'm sending that to her. She was asking whether I would take a commission to paint her or maybe someone in her family. I was actually going to do a portrait of her anyway but didn't get around to it. I don't know how I'd do her, but probably not receiving her medal."
Last month, the 25-year-old "Rolling In the Deep" singer was invited to Buckingham Palace where she received a Member of the Order of the British Empire by Prince Charles for her "services in the music industry," including the best-selling album of the century, her sophomore record "21," and snatching a number of Grammy awards. Adele released a statement in which she said she was very honored to be there, and called it "very posh indeed."
"By doing upside-down celeb images I'm trying to say you can't trust the images projected in the media, because the camera always lies in the 21st Century," Coffield said. "Everything's retouched, and Adele likes that notion."
