Anthony Davis' dominance
Anthony Davis' looks like in MVP form once again in his 2016-2017 NBA season debut.
Anthony Davis became a member of the All-NBA First Team in the 2014-2015 season. He finished 5th in the MVP voting and was also selected in the NBA All-Defensive Second Team on that same year. During that remarkable season, he averages 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.9 steals and 2.9 blocks in 68 regular season games, as per Wikipedia.
On New Orleans Pelicans first game of the 2016-2017 NBA season, it looks like Davis is once again in MVP form. Davis scored a ridiculous 50 points on 17-34 shooting from the floor and managed to make 16 of his 17 total free-throw attempts.
According to Elias Sports, Davis is the only player in NBA history to have at least 45 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals since steals were included in the NBA stats in 1973-74.
But despite his dominance, they still fall in the hands of the Denver Nuggets.
While Anthony Davis stood out and played at a very high level, his teammates struggled to score as his teammates shot 21-58 from the field and had 52 points overall. While the Pelicans performed a one-man show, the Nuggets showcased a balanced scoring led by Jusuf Nurkic with 23 points.
This maybe a loss for the Pelicans, but they also gained something. With Davis' performance, it is clear that Davis is ready to take it to the next level. And his teammates should follow his lead.
If his teammates could also take their game to the next level just like Davis did, who knows what might happen. Perhaps the Pelicans might make it to the playoffs this season.
Welcome to the Westbrook Era
In their first game of the post-Durant era, the Oklahoma City Thunder won the game against the Philadephia 76ers.
Well, Sixers is one of the worst NBA teams in the league right now. And the Thunder is expected to win anyway. But still, no one can ignore the fact that OKC is looking just fine without Kevin Durant.
Kevin Durant is the Thunder's franchise player for a very long time. 9 years to be exact. But last offseason, many were surprised of Kevin Durant's decision to sign with the Golden State Warriors.
And now that KD is gone, Russell Westbrook is now the face of the franchise. And he didn't disappoint the fans and the City.
On his season debut, he was one assist away from having another triple-double as he tallied 32 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists in 36 minutes. Well, this is Westbrook that we're talking here. He's a triple-double machine.
Now that Westbrook is the Thunder's franchise player, expect a triple-double production from him on a nightly basis. He is expected to step up in his game now that KD is gone.
The Durant Era is over for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The OKC looks good now that Russell Westbrook is the leader.
Welcome to the Westbrook Era.
