Pebble has a new premium edition of its trendy smartwatch lineup, showcasing a classy stainless steel band to wrap around the wrist.
Pebble has gained immense popularity with its smartwatches and its latest premium edition is a classy all-steel construction with no new features. The company, which first started out as a Kickstarter program last year, is shifting focus towards fashion-minded gadget-lovers with its new stainless steel design. Pebble is the first company to offer a full-steel smartwatch, which gives it a head start in competition with big players like Samsung, Sony and Qualcomm.
Pebble's new range of smartwatches is a shift from its colorful option. The smartwatch still offers the power-efficient monochrome E-Ink screen, pushbutton controls, water-resistant case, lasting battery life, support for iPhones and Android phones and runs native and third party apps. The new model does not change the display appearance, and comes in two brushed metal and a black matte finish, the company said in a press release, Tuesday.
Pebble has been successful with its smartwatch range, with over 300,000 units shipped across the world and over 3 million apps and watchfaces downloaded till date. New apps, including Pandora, Mercedes-Benz and ESPN, will make their way to the interesting smartwatch app store that already offers Yelp, Foursquare, GoPro, and iControl.
The Pebble Steel smartwatch also comes with a complimentary leather strap that can be changed anytime. The smartwatch is available for pre-order for $250, which is $100 more than the original Pebble smartwatch. The company will only start shipping the ordered units, January 28. Initially, Pebble Steel will be exclusively available on its own website, before moving to other retailers in the near future.
